Dr. Melissa Varswyk holds a Doctor of Medicine Degree from American International School of Medicine (AISM) and post grad in Health Professions Education from Keele University in the UK. She is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Georgetown American University (GAU) The University currently has a School of Medicine and School of Science and Technology and Energy. She is the Director of Women in Oil and Gas Guyana where she chairs the Program Committee and is responsible for reviewing and approving programs and grant awards for members. She also sits on the Board of Directors of the Georgetown International Academy with responsibility includes Academic development.
In 2021 she co-founded the Georgetown American University Foundation, Inc., (GAUFI), in the state of Georgia. GAUFI provides scholarships and grants awards to students for healthcare and STEM based education and training in state of Georgia and abroad.
Dr. Varswyk is committed to producing innovative and creative solutions towards transformative development. This is reflected in her selection for several local and international awards, the most recent is the United Nations Human Rights Fellow for People of African Descent and the 25 most influential women leaders in Guyana award.
Cyril M Fox holds a Degree in Civil Engineer from Howard University. He is the co-founder and Board Member of Georgetown American University (GAU) and the GAU Foundation, Inc. Mr. Fox is an entrepreneur in the Engineering industry and real-estate. He has over 45 years’ experience in business management, leadership and community development.
Mrs. Avis Kapepula is the First Lady and the Executive Director of Flaming Fire Ministries International, Maryland. Mrs. Kapepula has a passion for helping the needy, she constantly gives her time, money, and other resources towards promoting the welfare of the under privileged in the Caribbean and Africa. She believes that the secret to a fulfill life is giving.
She is former a Diplomat for the Guyana Government, her place of birth. In addition to serving as the Executive Director for Flaming Fire Ministries International, she holds the position of Director of International Affairs for Georgetown American University. She is also a Certified Life Coach and a Certified Professional Etiquette, Protocol Consultant and was instrumental in forming and directing several charitable organizations, namely Central High School Alumni Association, Guyanese Assisting In Development, Reach Out And Touch and Wheels Of Hope.
She loves serving the lord, is noble in heart and magnanimous in spirit. Elegance, virtue, and grace is among many of the attributes that make her stand out and makes her an inspiration and role model to women.
Mrs. Kapepula works diligently with excellence towards the accomplishment of the vision and the mission of GAU Foundation. She lives in Maryland, USA with her husband and children.
Dr Schirrer is socio-cultural and legal anthropologist interested in the history of international law, human rights, redress and climate justice, focusing on the Anglophone Caribbean and Scandinavia. She completed her PhD in the Department of Anthropology at Columbia, where she is pursuing a certificate with the university’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights. She has also been selected for a number of appointments at Columbia’s Center for Teaching and Learning, including Teaching Consultant and Teaching Observation Fellow. Her work has won awards from the National Science Foundation, the Wenner-Gren Foundation, the American-Scandinavian Foundation, and the Institute for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University. She peer-reviews for the Nordic Journal of Human Rights, and I serve as an external examiner in anthropology from 2022-2026 with the national censorkorps in Denmark. She serves on the board of Georgetown American University and the University’s Foundation.
Dr. Nancy Akunna is a trained Medical Doctor, she has over 15 years of administrative experience in the education system, 10 years in the Medical Education system. She is currently the Dean of Administration at the American International School of Medicine, the author of the book title “7 Nuggets of Excellence”. and also runs a home health care company known as Ketara Wellness Center LLC in Atlanta GA.
Dr. Nancy Akunna has a passion for serving the community and seeing that people around her and communities are happy and she has used her personal foundation to save a lot of lives in the United States and Nigeria at large, through her foundation called Ketara Foundation.
She has earned lots of awards and recognition in the USA, UK, Guyana, India, Russia, and Nigeria.
